Light as Sculpture: Amal Lafhal's Custom Chandelier

There are light fixtures, and then there are statements. The custom chandelier Amal Lafhal designed and commissioned for this double-height space belongs firmly in the second category. Suspended from a brushed brass ceiling plate on a cascade of fine black cables, the piece is composed of individually crafted elements, each one a curved, wing-like form in warm amber that catches and diffuses light the way a leaf catches afternoon sun. No two elements sit at the same angle. No two catch the light identically. The result is something that reads differently from every position in the room, a composition that is never static, never finished, always in a kind of suspended conversation with the space around it. From below, looking up through the cascade of glowing forms and blackened dome fixtures, it feels less like a chandelier and more like witnessing something in motion, a murmuration frozen at its most beautiful moment.

What makes this piece genuinely remarkable is not its scale, though the scale is commanding, but its restraint. Amal's design philosophy has always held that the most powerful objects are those that know exactly what they are and do not try to be anything else. This chandelier is pure light and pure form.
